Odin
He is the Norse god of war and death, and ruler of Asgard, the realm of the gods. He also presides over the great halls of Valhalla, where he welcomes slain viking warriors.
Known as a seeker and giver of wisdom, Odin famously sacrificed one of his eyes at the Well of Mímir in exchange for knowledge. His two raven familiars, Huginn (thought) and Muninn (memory), bring him information from all over the world of Midgard.
He’s never without his mighty spear Gungnir, created by the masterful dwarves known as the Sons of Ivaldi. It’s said to be made from the wood of the world tree Yggdrasil and is so well-crafted that it can strike any target without fail.
Odin, whom the Anglo-Saxons referred to as ‘Woden’, is so revered that he has his own day of the week: ‘Wednesday’ comes from the Old English ‘Wōdnesdæg’, or 'day of Woden'.
